Unions and Associations

Photographers may be represented by The NewsGuild-Communications Workers of America, AFL-CIO, CLC and IFJ and other unions. For professional photojournalists, the National Press Photographers Association (NPPA) provides advocacy, networking, training, and competitions. NPPA was founded in 1946 in the U.S. and has approximately 10,000 members. Photojournalists can also join the nonprofit Professional Photographers of America, which offers certification, continuing education, meetings, contests and equipment insurance to its 30,000 members.
