Radio and Television Announcers

Unions and Associations

Union membership may be required for employment with large stations in major cities, and it is a necessity with the networks. The largest talent union is SAG-AFTRA, and some announcers may also be members of the National Association of Broadcast Employees and Technicians. Most small stations, however, hire nonunion workers. Other useful organizations for announcers include the Broadcast Education Association, National Association of Broadcasters, National Association of Farm Broadcasting, National Cable & Telecomunications Association, and the Radio Television Digital News Association.
