Tattoo Artists

Exploring This Job

There are many ways to develop your own creativity, as well as to learn more about the work of tattoo artists. Immerse yourself in the world of art and graphic design in order to spark your creativity, learn about different artistic styles, and expand your creative horizons. It might be tempting to try tattooing on your own, but resist the urge to purchase low-cost (and inferior) tattooing equipment and begin giving tattoos to your friends and family. Only trained tattoo artists should give tattoos to people. There is a big difference between drawing on paper and creating art on a person’s skin. Some schools and apprenticeship programs have their trainees create tattoos on fruit, synthetic skin, or pig skin because it is extremely important that students master the art of giving a tattoo in practice settings before trying to do so on human skin.

To better understand the work of tattoo artists, visit a tattoo shop and talk with artists about their design styles and careers. Observe them at work. You could also watch YouTube videos of tattoo artists. If you are age 18 or older, consider getting a tattoo to experience the process firsthand. But think carefully before taking this step. Once you get a tattoo, it’s not easy (or cheap) to remove it if you don’t like it.
