Unions and Associations
Urban planners are not represented by unions. The major professional organization for planners is the American Planning Association. It offers information on education and careers, professional journals, continuing education opportunities, and other resources. Other useful organizations include the American Institute of Architects, American Society of Civil Engineers, and the International City/County Management Association. Planners who live in Canada often join the Canadian Institute of Planners. The Association of Collegiate Schools of Planning is a consortium of colleges and universities that offer degrees in urban and regional planning.
