Art Teachers

Work Environment

Art teachers work in generally pleasant conditions, although some older schools may have poor heating or electrical systems. The work can seem confining, requiring them to remain in the classroom throughout most of the day. On the other hand, many teachers enjoy teaching art concepts to students and watching their creativity blossom as the school year progresses. Elementary school art teachers have to deal with energetic children all day, which can be tiring and trying. Secondary school art teachers have to deal with teenagers' energy, which can also be challenging at times.

Elementary and high school hours are generally 8 A.M. to 3 P.M., but art teachers work more than 40 hours a week teaching, preparing for classes, grading papers and artwork, and directing extracurricular activities.
