Foreign Correspondents

Work Environment

Correspondents and other reporters may face a hectic work environment since they often have tight deadlines and have to produce their reports with little time for preparation. Correspondents who work in countries that face great political or social problems risk their health and even their lives to report breaking news. Covering wars, political uprisings, fires, floods, and similar events can be extremely dangerous. From 2014 to 2023, 500 journalists (including foreign correspondents) were killed while doing their jobs, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists.

Working hours vary depending on the correspondent's deadlines. Their work often demands irregular or long hours. Because foreign correspondents report from international locations, this job involves frequent and long-term travel. The amount of travel depends on the size of the region the correspondent covers.
