Plasterers

Unions and Associations

Plasterers often join a union such as the Operative Plasterers' and Cement Masons' International Association (OPCMIA) or the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftsmen (BAC). For nearly 150 years, OPCMIA has represented and trained plasterers and cement masons for the purpose of protecting and promoting the quality of the industry and the livelihood of its members. In addition to advocacy, BAC provides continuing education programs and services that support members. Unions are generally able to negotiate better wages, benefits, and working conditions than a self-employed plasterer would. The International Masonry Institute provides certification.
