Cleaning Service Owners

Earnings

Because of the differing sizes of cleaning services, from franchises and single-owner operations, to multimillion-dollar cleaning companies, few accurate salary statistics have been compiled. A hard-working entrepreneur with a single-person operation can make between $45,000 and $60,000 a year. Owners of large cleaning service firms can easily make more than $100,000 annually. Supervisors and managers of housekeeping and janitorial workers earned median annual salaries of $46,650 in May 2023, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. The lowest paid 10 percent of managers of supervisors of housekeeping and janitorial workers earned less than $33,060 and the highest paid earned more than $71,870. Someone with a disaster restoration service can make a lot more money from contracts with insurance companies, but it's also a lot more work, requiring more staff.

A carpet cleaner providing residential service will charge per room, per hour, or per square foot. Services charge between $25 and $75 per room, with extra charges for disinfectant and fabric protection. To clean upholstery, a cleaner will charge between $50 and $200 for each piece of furniture.

Cleaning service owners must provide their own benefits such as health insurance.
