Cleaning Service Owners

Outlook

Employment for self-employed janitors and cleaners is expected to grow about as fast as the average for all occupations through 2032, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. Office buildings make up the biggest share of the cleaning services market, and the marketplace is expanding to include more government buildings and industrial plants, as well. Job opportunities will be good as more businesses contract with outside companies for cleaning services.

As the science of cleaning advances, more specialization within the market will be required. In order to best understand your equipment, methods, and solutions, you may need to narrow your services to residential, commercial, or restoration. Restorers who service large businesses will have to keep up with the technology of electronics and information storage in order to best restore office hardware and software. Additionally, there is an increasing emphasis on environmentally friendly cleaning practices, and cleaning professionals who have expertise in "green cleaning" will have good job prospects.
