Editorial research assistants are excellent communicators, so you should excel in English. Strong research and writing skills are essential, since you will be fact-checking, correcting, and even rewriting the work of others. If elective classes in writing are available in your school, take them. Take journalism and speech courses. Work as a writer or editor for the school paper. All editorial research assistants use computers in their work, so be sure to take computer courses and learn how to type quickly and accurately and use the Internet to conduct online research.
