Education and Training Requirements

High School

In high school, take classes in marketing, psychology (especially business/marketing psychology), and data science and analytics to learn how to create effective marketing campaigns, better understand what motivates people to buy or not buy a product or service, and to learn how to evaluate data for insights. Other recommended courses include English, writing, speech, foreign language, mathematics, computer science (especially digital design and software development), and social studies.

Postsecondary Education

Growth hackers typically have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in marketing, digital marketing, business, data science, data analytics, or a related field. Some also earn degrees or certificates in programming, software development, or computer science.

Certification

There are no certificate programs in growth hacking, but colleges and universities, online learning platforms (OLPs), and professional associations offer certificate programs in digital marketing and general marketing that cover core concepts of growth hacking, Certificates in business, data science, data analytics, consumer behavior, consumer behavior and marketing strategy, and related fields will also be useful for current or aspiring growth hackers.

Other Education or Training

Professional associations, postsecondary institutions, and OLPs offer courses in marketing, digital marketing, data analytics, software development, and other useful areas. Some even offer classes in growth hacking. For example, the OLP Udemy (https://www.udemy.com) offers Growth Marketing Fundamentals, Growth Hacking with Digital Marketing, among other classes.
