Growth Hackers

Experience, Skills, and Personality Traits

It’s possible that a new college graduate with extensive internship or co-op experience in growth marketing could land a job as a growth hacker. But the majority of companies prefer candidates who have at least three years of experience in growth hacking, viral mechanics, A/B testing, conversion rate optimization, user experience, data analysis, search engine optimization/marketing, and content management.

Some employers prefer to hire growth hackers who are skilled in programming (e.g., development process, various programming languages used in the field), the ability to build Web landing pages and entire Web sites, and other tech skills, but others hire IT professionals for these tasks. Growth hackers must know how to collect and analyze data, and make recommendations based on their conclusions. They should have a good understanding of branding and Web and physical product design.

Successful growth hackers are creative, organized, able to work well both independently and as a member of a team, and open and honest (i.e., not afraid to challenge the status quo or suggest outside-the-box ideas). They also need top-notch analytical, problem-solving, time-management, and oral and written communication skills.
