Maids and housekeepers who work in private homes do not typically belong to unions. Those who work at hotels and other businesses can join unions such as UNITE HERE or local unions for hotel staff. Housekeepers can join professional organizations, such as IEHA and the American Hotel and Lodging Association. The cleaning trade association ISSA provides the ISSA CIMS Expert certification.
