Meteorologists employed in the U.S. in February 2020 earned a median salary of $97,191, according to Salary.com. The U.S. Department of Labor reports that atmospheric scientists, including meteorologists, earned median annual earnings of $94,110 in May 2018. Salaries ranged from less thanĀ $50,040 to more than $142,500. The average salary for meteorologists employed by the federal government was about $104,440. Meteorologists who worked in scientific research and development earned $103,460, while those who worked in television broadcasting made $89,240.

In broadcast meteorology, salaries vary greatly. Television weathercasters earn salaries that range from $16,000 to $1 million or more.

Benefits for meteorologists depend on the employer; however, they usually include such items as health insurance, retirement or 401(k) plans, and paid vacation days.
