Meteorologists employed in the U.S. in February 2025 earned a median salary of $96,278, according to ZipRecruiter.com. The U.S. Department of Labor reports that atmospheric scientists, including meteorologists, earned median annual earnings of $92,860 in May 2023. Salaries ranged from less than $48,960 to more than $157,250. The average salary for meteorologists employed by the federal government was about $114,900. Meteorologists who worked in scientific research and development earned $103,960, while those who worked in television broadcasting made $68,040.

In broadcast meteorology, salaries vary greatly. Television weathercasters earn salaries that range from $16,000 to $1 million or more.
