Unions and Associations

Broadcast meteorologists may be members of SAG-AFTRA, a union that represents the professional interests of television, radio, recording, and motion picture performers. The American Meteorological Society, National Council of Industrial Meteorologists, and the National Weather Association are membership organizations for meteorologists that offer publications, networking opportunities, career information, and continuing education webinars and workshops. The World Meteorological Organization is a specialized agency of the United Nations that serves as the UN's "authoritative voice on the state and behaviour of the Earth's atmosphere, its interaction with the oceans, the climate it produces and the resulting distribution of water resources." The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is a federal government agency that is concerned with describing and predicting changes in the environment, as well as managing marine and coastal resources. The National Weather Service is a component of NOAA that "provides weather, water, and climate data, forecasts, and warnings for the protection of life and property and enhancement of the national economy."
