The National Association of Colleges and Employers reports that new college graduates with master’s degrees in the fields of mathematics and science earned average starting salaries of $62,488 in 2020. Those with doctoral degrees in mathematics and sciences earned $103,083.
According to the National Nanotechnology Infrastructure Network, nanotechnology professionals with master’s degrees earn salaries that range from $50,000 to $80,000, while those with Ph.D.s earn $75,000 to $100,000.
The U.S. Department of Labor reports that chemists earned salaries that ranged from less than $43,920 to $133,180 or more in May 2018. Material scientists had median annual earnings of $99,800. The top 10 percent of workers earned $159,970 or more, while the least-experienced workers received $52,560 or less.
