Rewilders have a wide range of backgrounds, but many have conservation or environmental science training. The U.S. Department of Labor does not provide salary information for rewilders, but it does report that conservation scientists who worked for social advocacy organizations earned mean annual salaries of $62,800 in 2021. Earnings for all conservation scientists ranged from $38,670 to $100,440 or more.
Benefits for full-time rewilders include vacation and sick time, health, and sometimes dental, insurance, and pension or 401(k) plans. Rewilders are more likely to receive fringe benefits if they work for large environmental organizations and government agencies. Self-employed rewilders must provide their own benefits.
