Rewilders

Certification, Licensing, and Special Requirements

Certification or Licensing

The Society for Ecological Restoration offers the certified ecological restoration practitioner credential “for those who are designing, implementing, overseeing, and monitoring ecological restoration projects throughout the world.” Applicants must meet educational requirements, have at least five years of full-time restoration experience in a professional setting, be able to document three separate restoration projects that they have been involved in, and meet other criteria. Conservationists and other science professionals can also earn environmental-related certifications from the Academy of Board Certified Environmental Professionals, Ecological Society of America, Society of American Foresters, and the Society for Range Management, among other organizations.

A lawyer who works for a rewilding organization must typically pass their state’s written bar examination, which provides them with a license to practice law. No other type of rewilding professional needs to be licensed.
