Fashion Writers and Editors

The environments in which fashion writers and editors work can vary widely. Most writers and editors work in offices or cubicles. But they may not spend all of their time there, as their jobs may require them to attend fashion shows in other cities, visit fashion houses or department stores, attend social functions, or make less glamorous visits to the library for research. Many of these events happen after the typical 9 to 5 workday is over, or on weekends.

Almost all fashion writers and editors must deal with deadlines, which affects their work environment. Some writers and editors, such as those who are employed by newspapers or magazines, work in a much more pressurized atmosphere than those working on books because they face daily or weekly deadlines. Fashion editors and writers working on books may have a more regular 40-hour workweek and less constant deadline pressure, since book production usually takes place over several months. In almost all cases, though, fashion writers and editors will work long hours during certain phases of the editing process to meet deadlines.
