FBI Agents

Exploring This Job

If you are interested in a career with the FBI, you may apply for internships and other programs offered through your local police departments, which will give you experience and insight into aspects of law enforcement in general.

Students ages 16 through 18 can participate in the FBI's summer Future Agents in Training-Teen Academy, which is offered at the FBI's Washington, DC, headquarters, and at select field offices. Participants spend up to four or five days learning about the work of special agents. Visit https://www.fbi.gov for more information.

One other interesting resource that will shed light on the work of FBI agents through history is The FBI: A Centennial History, 1908-2008, which is available for free at https://www.fbi.gov/file-repository/fbi100book.pdf/view. Another option is The Birth of the FBI: Teddy Roosevelt, the Secret Service, and the Fight Over America's Premier Law Enforcement Agency, by Willard Oliver

Additionally, those who are in sixth grade through age 20 can participate in the Learning for Life program (https://www.exploring.org), which is affiliated with Scouting America (formerly the Boy Scouts of America). Participants in its Law Enforcement Exploring program learn about policing through hands-on activities and classroom training. Both young men and women may participate.
