Salaries depend on the experience and education level of the worker, the type of work being done, and geographic location. Landscaping and grounds maintenance workers earned about $17.96 an hour (or $37,360) in May 2023, according to the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL). Hourly earnings ranged from less than $13.98 (or $29,070 annually) to $24.66 ($51,290 annually) or more.

The DOL reports the following median hourly earnings for workers in this industry in May 2023: tree trimmers and pruners, $23.59 ($49,070 annually); and pesticide handlers, sprayers, and applicators, vegetation, $21.19 ($44,070 annually). Landscape contractors and others who run their own businesses earn between $25,000 and $75,000 or more per year, with those with a greater ability to locate customers earning even more.

Fringe benefits for landscapers vary from employer to employer but generally include medical insurance and paid vacation.
