Lawn and Gardening Service Owners

Earnings

Earnings in lawn care depend on a number of factors, such as geographic location, the size of the business, and the level of experience. Lawn care services generally make more money in areas of the country that have mild winters, offering more months of lawn growth and, as a result, requiring more care. The size of the client base also greatly affects earnings. A lawn care professional with a small clientele may make less than $20,000 a year, while the owner of a franchise lawn care company with a number of contracts and a large staff can make over $100,000.

First-line supervisors/managers of landscaping, lawn service, and groundskeeping workers earned median annual salaries of $55,740 in May 2023, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. Salaries ranged from less than $39,030 to $82,880 or more annually. According to PayScale, landscaping supervisors earned average annual salaries of $42,266 in 2024.

As an owner of a lawn and gardening service, you will be responsible for providing your own benefits such as health insurance and retirement plans.
