Airport Service Workers

Work Environment

With millions of travelers from countless states and countries passing through annually, airports are hectic but exciting places to work. And like the diverse travelers they serve, airport service workers enjoy a wide variety of work environments. Workers employed in concessions and food service work indoors in a comfortable, climate-controlled environment. Others, such as janitors and cleaners and maintenance staff, work both indoors and outdoors to keep airport facilities maintained. Skycaps spend most of their workday outdoors on their feet in sometimes severe weather conditions. Airport drivers work in all types of weather conditions. They are constantly on the go, transporting passengers, airport employees, and equipment and goods to various locations. Groundsmanagers and groundskeeping crews work outside year-round in all types and conditions of weather. Grounds workers frequently use pesticides, herbicides, and fungicides to keep turf, plants, shrubs, trees, and flowers healthy and beautiful. It is essential that they observe safety precautions when applying these chemicals to prevent exposure.
