Airport Service Workers

Work Environment

With millions of travelers from countless states and countries passing through annually, airports are hectic but exciting places to work. And like the diverse travelers they serve, airport service workers enjoy various work environments. Workers employed in concessions and food service work indoors in a comfortable, climate-controlled environment. Others, such as janitors, cleaners, and maintenance staff, work indoors and outdoors to maintain airport facilities. Skycaps spend most of their workday outdoors on their feet in sometimes severe weather conditions. Airport drivers work in all types of weather conditions. They are constantly on the go, transporting passengers, airport employees, equipment, and goods to various locations. Grounds managers and groundskeeping crews work outside year-round in all types and conditions of weather. Groundworkers frequently use pesticides, herbicides, and fungicides to keep turf, plants, shrubs, trees, and flowers healthy and beautiful. They must observe safety precautions when applying these chemicals to prevent exposure.
