Brand Strategists

Experience, Skills, and Personality Traits

Brand strategists typically work for one to three years in lower-level marketing and branding positions before they obtain the required experience and training to become strategists.

Brand strategists need excellent communication skills in order to effectively share their ideas with clients, collaborate with cross-functional teams, craft a compelling narrative about a brand, and meet other goals. Complementary skills include creativity, originality, and out-of-the-box thinking. Other important traits include strong research, analytical, and problem-solving skills; the ability to work both independently and as a member of a team; and good project management skills.

Strategists must have a good understanding of digital marketing techniques and tools, data analytics, automated marketing platforms, and spreadsheet and project management software. Some strategists utilize generative artificial intelligence to write marketing copy, generate ideas, collect and analyze data, and meet other goals. As a result, it’s a good idea to become familiar with this technology.
