Certification or Licensing

The International Society of Automation offers the certified control systems technician and certified automation professional credentials to applicants who demonstrate extensive knowledge of automation and controls by passing an exam, as well as meet education and work experience requirements. Voluntary certification is also available from the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies, and other organizations. No licensing is required for BAS technicians.

Other Requirements

Some employers may require workers to pass a drug test as part of the interview process or periodically after hiring. A driver's license may be required for workers whose job necessitates them traveling to multiple buildings or facilities.
