Unions and Associations
Some technicians are represented by the International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers and other unions. In addition, some join professional associations that provide a wealth of career support and advancement resources. For example, the International Society of Automation offers membership categories for professionals and college students, has a Building Automation Systems Division, and offers certification, among other resources. Other useful organizations include the Association of Controls Professionals, American Society of Mechanical Engineers, National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies, and the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society.
