Employers
Building automation systems technicians work for companies that develop building automation technology and/or provide automation services, large construction companies, government agencies, and consulting firms that provide expertise to the aforementioned employers. Major private sector employers of building automation technicians include Honeywell International, Siemens AG, Johnson Controls, Delta Electronics, Eaton Corporation, and Bosch Rexroth. Some technicians teach students about building automation technology at community and technical colleges.
Starting Out
College students can learn about internship and job openings through their school’s career service office, by attending career fairs and meeting with company recruiters, and by asking their professors to recommend quality employers that may have job openings. Many students and young professionals create a profile on LinkedIn, which allows them to present their educational and professional credentials to recruiters, learn more about potential employers in their field of interest, and sign up to receive job announcements. LinkedIn reports that more than 1 billion people in more than 200 countries and territories worldwide use its services.
