The market value of the global commercial drone industry was $19.89 billion in 2022, according to Grand View Research, and revenue is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 13.9 percent from 2023 to 2030. Revenue will reach $57.16 billion in 2030. "The market growth is attributed to the increasing enterprise application of drones across various industry verticals," according to Grand View Research. "The commercial drone market growth is further driven by technological advances in electronics, such as modern computing, microcontrollers, processors, mobile hardware, and cameras." Demand for drones is also very strong in the military and defense sector.

Engineers with knowledge of the software systems required for drone engineering, those with certification, and those who are licensed will have the best job prospects.
