Outlook
Employment of set and exhibit designers is expected to grow about as fast as the average for all careers through 2033, according to the >Occupational Outlook Handbook. Museums are continuing to recover from the pandemic, which caused a decline in visitor attendance and revenue due to business closures and lockdowns. Post pandemic, as public museums continue to face tight budgets, museum directors may choose to contract with independent exhibition and design companies to install new exhibits instead of retaining a staff of in-house designers.
Since this is a very small field, there is strong competition for museum jobs. Designers with experience and strong animation and multimedia skills will have an advantage when applying for positions.
