Appliance Service Technicians

Earnings

The earnings of appliance technicians vary widely according to geographic location, type of equipment serviced, workers' skills and experience, and other factors. In May 2023, the U.S. Department of Labor reported that the median annual salary for home appliance technicians was $47,170. At the low end of the salary scale, technicians earned less than $31,000. Technicians at the high end of the pay scale earned $72,660 or more per year. In June 2024, Salary.com reported that salaries for appliance repair technicians ranged from $49,087 or less to $77,302 or more, averaging $63,520. Trainees are usually paid less than technicians who have completed their training period. Employees of gas utility companies and other large companies generally command higher hourly wages than those who work for service centers. Some service centers, however, offer incentives for technicians to increase their productivity. Some of these incentive plans, such as bonuses for the fewest callbacks for repairs or for best job performance in certain time periods, are very lucrative and can allow a proficient worker to add considerably to his or her salary.
