Appliance Service Technicians

Outlook

Employment for appliance service repairers is expected to decline 2 percent through 2032, according to the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL). Although Americans will certainly continue buying and using more appliances, today's machines are often made with electronic components that require fewer repairs than their nonelectronic counterparts. Thus, the dependability of the technology built into these new appliances will restrain growth in the repair field. On the other hand, as the price of high-end appliances continues to increase, many Americans will choose to repair their devices rather than pay to replace them.

Many openings that arise will be due to workers leaving their jobs who must be replaced. Opportunities are expected to be best for those with formal training in appliance repair and electronics.
