Methane/Landfill Gas Generation System Technicians

Outlook

The Department of Labor forecasts little or no employment growth for plant and system operators, all other, through 2028. As environmental regulations regarding landfills, methane, and gas collection processes continue to be tightened, companies will need experienced technicians to ensure methane/landfill gas generation and collection machines and systems are operating correctly and in compliance. The Environmental Protection Agency reports that there are more than 2,600 municipal solid waste landfills in the U.S. that are accepting waste or have been closed in the past few decades. There are about 578 landfill gas energy projects and about 480 other landfills that have the potential to have their methane converted into energy resources. Methane/landfill gas generation system technicians with an associate's or bachelor's degree, certification, prior work experience, and strong knowledge of landfill gas analysis software will have the best job prospects.
