Transportation Planners

Unions and Associations

Transportation planners do not belong to unions. Many join professional associations in order to access to education, certification, research, conferences, publications, job referrals, and other resources. They enhance their job skills and knowledge by participating in organizations such as the American Planning Association (which has a Transportation Planning Division and offers a membership option for college students), Institute of Transportation Engineers, National Association of City Transportation Officials, Transportation Professional Certification Board Inc., and the Women's Transportation Seminar International. The Transportation and Development Institute, a division of the American Society of Civil Engineers, also offers resources that are useful to transportation planners.
