Coremakers

Coremaking has been a part of foundry work since techniques were first developed to make molded metal articles. The earliest cores were made by hand from wood or metal. By today's standards, they would be considered very crude.

During the 1800s, the use of metals in industrial applications expanded greatly. The years following the Civil War saw the Industrial Revolution change production techniques in the United States. Many new types of machines were invented, and coremaking, along with other foundry work, was an important activity in producing these machines. The 20th century saw increased production of metal articles and machinery, with many of them made of cast metals. Today, automobiles, airplanes, farm machinery, refrigerators, and many other items that are essential to our lives are made with the help of coremakers.
