Mechatronics Engineers

The term mechatronics was invented by a Japanese engineer named Tetsuro Mori in the late 1960s to describe the engineering integration of mechanical systems and electronics. Before this time, industrial products and equipment were largely created using mechanical components, and few featured electronic systems. That all changed as semiconductors became smaller and more advanced and engineers and industrial designers began to envision products and systems that integrated both mechanical and electronic components. These mechatronic systems allowed manufacturing systems to operate more efficiently and for products to be produced at a lower cost.

Today, electronic circuits and software are incorporated into the mechanical systems of many types of manufacturing equipment and end products—ranging from aircraft flight control and navigation systems, to artificial organs and biomedical equipment, to copy machines and optical telecommunication technology, to gas/electric-hybrid vehicles and robotic automated manufacturing systems.
