Employment for lawyers is expected to grow faster than the average for all occupations through 2032, according to the Occupational Outlook Handbook. Job opportunities for bankruptcy lawyers should be fairly good due to increase in bankruptcy filings in recent years. After declining through June 2022, personal and business bankruptcy filings increased 16.2 percent in the 12-month period ending June 30, 2024, compared with the previous year, according to the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts. The sheer volume of bankruptcy filings (486,613 from June 30, 2023, and June 30, 2024) suggests that there will continue to be demand for bankruptcy lawyers. Nevertheless, if the economy remains strong and the national unemployment rate continues to remain stable or declines, there will be fewer job opportunities for bankruptcy lawyers than currently anticipated.
