Corporate Librarians

Outlook

Employment for all librarians is expected to grow by 3 percent (about as fast as the average for all careers) from 2023 to 2033, according to the U.S. Department of Labor.

Many companies—including private corporations, nonprofit organizations, and consulting firms—are hiring librarians to help them organize and analyze their information. Since corporate librarians work in many different sectors of the economy, job prospects will vary based on the overall economic health of the industry in which the corporate librarian is employed.

Corporate librarians with excellent research and analytical skills, and who are well versed in computer database and library automation systems will be in demand in the years to come. By the mid-2020s, some librarians were using advanced tools to assist with their work, including those powered by generative artificial intelligence (GenAI). This technology may allow librarians to automate some tasks and focus on providing patrons with a higher level of assistance. Organizations like the American Association of Law Libraries provided members with training to assess available GenAI solutions and determine how to integrate them into workflows.
