Motion Graphics Artists

Outlook

Job opportunities for special effects artists and animators (including motion graphics artists) are expected to grow 4 percent from 2020 to 2030, according to the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL). This is about as fast as the average for all careers. The DOL says that growth will occur as a result of “increased demand for animation and visual effects in video games, movies, and television. Further, an increased demand for computer graphics for mobile devices, such as smart phones, will lead to more job opportunities.”

There are many opportunities for MGAs as a result of the need to incorporate motion graphics into movies, television shows, advertisements, Web sites, and other products. The employment outlook for MGAs is also good overall because they have many transferable skills that make them excellent candidates for positions as animators, video game designers, and other related occupations. Job opportunities will be best for motion graphics artists with exceptional creativity and imagination, experience at well-known companies, and skill at using the latest motion graphics technologies and techniques.

Opportunities may slow if motion graphic arts jobs continue to be outsourced to foreign countries where artists make less money and if the use of advanced artificial intelligence reduces the need for artists who perform routine animation and special effects tasks.
