Motion Graphics Artists

Unions and Associations

The majority of motion graphics artists are not represented by unions, but some artists belong to The Animation Guild and other unions. Members of unions often have a better chance of landing a job. They often receive higher pay and better benefits than those who are not members of unions.

Many artists are members of or otherwise utilize the resources of professional associations. These organizations offer many useful resources such as publications, networking events, and training opportunities. One popular organization is AIGA, the professional association for design. This organization, which was founded in 1914, offers membership for K–12 students, college students, and professionals; chapter mentorship programs and portfolio reviews; access to designer toolkits, legal guides, and sample legal contracts; continuing education classes, and networking opportunities. Members can create a profile in the AIGA Designer Directory. Other noteworthy organizations include the Graphic Artists Guild, Interaction Design Association, Society for Experiential Graphic Design, and Women in Animation.
