Motion Graphics Artists

The Job

Job duties for motion graphics artists vary by their employer. Some are given the main theme or goal of an advertisement or opening sequence in a television show and asked to develop several concepts for the art director and/or client to review and select from. Once a concept is approved, the artist creates 2D and 3D motion graphics packages and templates, while adhering to organization or client style guides. Other artists may be asked to translate existing scripts, brand guides, or storyboards into an effective and engaging motion graphics product. They meet with other artists, the art director, and, sometimes, clients to explain their decisions regarding typography, music tracks, sound effects, and other design components and make revisions based on their feedback. Other duties include maintaining libraries of motion graphics for future usage; modifying stock assets to suit project needs; assisting with front end and basic user interface design issues; organizing and managing video assets and music libraries; identifying and implementing opportunities for automation, process, design, file format, and technical improvements; training new artists on company polices and graphics design best practices; and staying up-to-date on motion graphics design and industry trends by attending educational conferences, participating in design user groups, reading publications, and enrolling in webinars and in-person classes.
