Nanosystems Engineers

Unions and Associations

Some nanosystems engineers are represented by the Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace, the International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers, and other unions. In addition, many other organizations provide useful resources. ABET accredits postsecondary engineering education programs.

Some professional engineering associations have councils or subgroups for engineers who specialize in nanoscience and nanotechnology. The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) publishes various journals and newsletters, and hosts conferences for members who are interested in nanotechnology. Some nanosystems engineers are members of the American Institute of Physics, ASME, Materials Research Society, IEEE, Association for Computing Machinery, and The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society.

These organizations provide a variety of useful resources for engineers. For example, the IEEE offers publications (such as IEEE Spectrum), networking opportunities, continuing education classes and webinars, and much more. Student members receive IEEE Potentials Magazine and can access ResumeLab, an online service that allows them to develop a resume or curriculum vitae using a wide array of resume templates. Other useful organizations include the International Association of Nanotechnology, Nano Science and Technology Institute, Nanotechnology Industries Association, National Nanotechnology Initiative, National Nanofabrication Infrastructure Network, American Society for Engineering Education, National Society of Professional Engineers, and the Society of Women Engineers.
