Employment of public relations professionals is expected to grow faster than the average for all careers through 2033, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. Competition will be keen for beginning jobs in public relations because so many job seekers are enticed by the perceived glamour and appeal of the field; those with both education and experience will have an advantage. Opportunities will be stronger in some industries than others.
Most large companies have some sort of public relations resource, either through their own staff or through the use of a firm of consultants. Many will expand their public relations activities, creating new jobs. Smaller companies are increasingly hiring public relations specialists, adding to the demand for these workers. The growing use of social media by businesses and other organizations will create increasing opportunities for public relations specialists, who will be needed to help their employers use this valuable tool to reach consumers and the general public. Additionally, when corporate scandals surface, public relations specialists will be hired to help improve the images of companies and regain the trust of the public.
