Budget Analysts

Experience, Skills, and Personality Traits

Budget analysts who are hired directly after college graduation obtain experience by participating in internships, cooperative education programs, or other experiential learning opportunities. Some employers require job candidates to have several years of experience in lower-level financial positions.

Budget analysts use technology daily to evaluate, store, and share financial data. As a result, they must be able to use accounting, analytical, database reporting, relational database, enterprise resource planning, budget monitoring, and other types of software.

Key traits for budget analysts include strong analytical and problem-solving ability, excellent oral and written communication skills, a detail-oriented personality, the ability to work independently and proactively within a team, adaptability, strong ethics, and the capacity to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
