The lowest paid 10 percent of all writers earned less than $40,900, while the highest paid 10 percent earned $148,240 or more. In addition to their salaries, many writers earn some income from freelance work. Part-time freelancers may earn from $5,000 to $15,000 a year. Freelance earnings vary widely. Full-time, established freelance writers may earn up to $100,000 or more per year.
