The top 10 percent earned $133,660 or higher, and the lowest 10 percent made less than $48,580. Those who worked for management, scientific, and technical consulting services averaged about $77,860 per year, while those who were employed by local governments earned $76,890 per year. The top paying states and territories for environmental scientists were the District of Columbia, Connecticut, Massachusetts, California, and Colorado.
