Environmental Scientists

Unions and Associations

Some environmental scientists may be represented by the International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers and other unions.

The following professional associations offer useful resources and professional support: Academy of Board Certified Environmental Professionals; Air & Waste Management Association; American Chemical Society; American Geophysical Union; American Institute of Biological Sciences; Ecological Society of America; Institute of Hazardous Materials Management; Institute of Professional Environmental Practice; Marine Chemist Association; National Association of Environmental Professionals; Soil Science Society of America; and the Water Environment Association.

The Student Conservation Association offers programs and activities for high school students, college students, and young adults. The UCAR Center for Science Education offers a variety of programs for high school and college students interested in the atmospheric sciences and related fields, including SOARS, Significant Opportunities in Atmospheric Research and Science, "an undergraduate-to-graduate bridge program designed to broaden participation in the atmospheric and related sciences"; an Undergraduate Leadership Workshop; and a Pre-College Internship Program.
