Fashion Models' Agents

Outlook

The U.S. Department of Labor predicts that employment for agents and business managers of artists, performers, and athletes will grow much faster than the average for all careers through 2033. But, despite this prediction, there are only a small number of fashion models' agents, and it is extremely difficult to land a job. With that said, there should continue to be opportunities. Since most clients prefer to work with modeling agencies, very few models succeed without the support of an agency. New York City will continue to be the hub of modeling in the United States, and many large agencies will stay headquartered there. Agents may find more jobs by representing actors and actresses. Some agents also represent parts models—those that model specific body parts. The most popular parts models specialize in modeling legs, feet, or hands.

Competition for jobs will be stiff since many view the fashion industry as glamorous and high paying. In truth, many careers in this field are short-lived, the result of trends and looks falling out of favor. Only a few supermodels earn millions of dollars in endorsements and reach celebrity status. Most models, on the other hand, achieve more modest successes. Yet agents consider such models the bread and butter of the industry.
