Green Builders

Outlook

Green builders should have good job opportunities in the years to come. Green building is on the rise due to concerns about the environment and human health. Sustainable building practices are becoming the norm, and as a result, green builders are in high demand. The U.S. Department of Labor predicts that the employment of construction managers, including green builders, will grow by 9 percent, much faster than the average for all careers, through 2033.

Construction projects are becoming more complex due to laws regarding standards for buildings and construction materials, worker safety, energy efficiency, environmental protection, and construction litigation. Building professionals with experience and knowledge of these areas will be in particular demand. Also, those who are skilled in using advanced technology will find more employment opportunities. More multipurpose buildings and energy-efficient structures are being commissioned, and portions of U.S. infrastructure are continuously being replaced, creating job opportunities for building professionals. Construction managers will be needed to help build residential homes, office buildings, shopping malls, hospitals, schools, restaurants, and other structures.
