Localization Specialists

History

The origins of localization translation can be traced back to the 1980s when the fast-growing information technology (IT) industry sought specialized translators who could localize software and hardware products for their international markets. At the time, “localization was a slow, manual task where every step of translating and adapting a product for different markets was labor-intensive and highly dependent on human effort,” according to Multilingual.com. Today, the use of artificial intelligence–powered software and other technology allow localization services to be provided more efficiently and quickly. Despite technological advances, skilled localization specialists remain key players in providing quality localization services—which are now used not only by the IT industry but by companies and other organizations in a wide range of industries.
