Risk Managers

Outlook

Since advanced technology continues to increase productivity as well as the potential for disaster, the need for risk management will continue to grow. Organizations now recognize risk management as an integral and effective tool for cost-containment. The profession will continue to gain recognition in the next decade, so salaries and career opportunities are expected to continue to escalate. The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) predicts that employment for financial managers (including risk managers) will grow by 17 percent from 2023 through 2033. This is much faster than the average for all careers. "There has been an increased emphasis on risk management within the financial industry, and this trend is expected to continue," according to the DOL. "Banking institutions are expected to emphasize stability and managing risk over profits. This emphasis is expected to lead to employment growth for risk managers." Risk management professionals with advanced degrees and certification will have improved chances of securing top jobs.
